We`ll check and adjust the bikes before heading to Vipava Valley – a cycling wonderland, featuring big mountain climbs, undulating roads through vineyards and easy flat routes options. It`s also a home to many local wine varieties, among them most famous Pinela and Zelen white wines. Both make a perfect complement to a day spent cycling with fantastic scenery! This stage takes as through vineyards and historic towns of Vipava and Vipavski Križ, both offering amazing sights and tastes of local products .

(cca. 56 km and 1.000 vertical meters of climb)

DAY 2 - Karst - Kingdom of Teran and Prosciutto

Just a stone throw away, another region with completely different landscape awaits! Karst plateau that gently descents into the Adriatic Sea is the homeland of famous dark-ruby colored Teran wine. Together with air dried local Pršut (Prosciutto), it`s couple made in heaven! Mostly undulating terrain through sleepy charming villages is perfect to relax our legs after a hilly first day of riding.

(cca. 52 km and 800 vertical meters of climb)

DAY 3 - Brda & Collio - Two sides of the most successful wine region

The area of Slovenian Goriška Brda and Italian Collio reminds us of Tuscany. Hilly terrain is abundant with vineyards and some most successful winemakers come from this beautiful region. Castello di Spessa on Italian side and historic town of Šmartno on Slovenian will make this tour unforgettable. We`ll finish-off our inland wine region exploration with a proper wine-tasting with a selected winemaker.

DAY 4 - Piran - Pearl of the coast

It`s time to head for the coast! We`ll climb up the Karst plateau and then gradually descend to the historic maritime city of Trieste. We`ll find tiny backroads to navigate through the city and continue along Slovenian coastal towns of Koper and Izola, using an old railroad track that serves as magnificent cycling route nowadays.  We`ll finish our last tour stage in the historic town of Piran, often called a pearl of the coast. The official currency in Slovenia is the Euro – €. Additional costs you may encounter during your stay: lunch (cca. 10 – 15€/day), souvenirs, drinks in bars, massage treatments in hotels, etc. Most places allow payments by credit card, but we recommend you visit an ATM machine and pay in cash. Tipping is welcome (if you are satisfied with the service), not mandatory. The usual tip is up to 15% of the bill.

How about the food and meals?

In all multi-day trips breakfast & dinner is included in the price. Lunch is the only meal that needs to be paid separately (around 10-15€ per day). Breakfast and dinner are part of the half-board lodging option at each hotel. Each day includes a lunch stop at a specially selected local restaurant, serving local home made food, friendly atmosphere and range of foods characteristic for the area. Other lunch option is buying food in the grocery store. We kindly ask our guests to report any special nutritional requirements in advance (vegetarians, gluten free …) so we can notify the hotels and restaurants accordingly.

What kind of bike do I need?

We recommend standard road bikes for our bike tours. The bike should not weigh more than 10 kilos as there is quite a bit of uphill riding. Gearing; we recommend 50/34 combination of chainrings and at least 11-28 cassette. Even wider gearing, triple or 1×12 are also good options. Disc brakes are welcome but we are not able to provide spare wheels in case of puncture for all different standards.

Can I Rent a bike?

Sure! We have a number of high quality carbon road bikes available for rent. Bikes can be reserved upon booking to eliminate any chance of not having a bike ready and waiting for you when you arrive. For a full list of bikes, sizes and pricing contact us at info@bikegalaxy.si.

What spare parts for my bike should I bring?

Spare tube is welcome and any special tools for your bike. Professional bike mechanic will be available for small repairs. In case of major difficulties a spare bike or spare wheels will be at your disposal during the ride.

What clothing do you recommend?

With the exception of May and October, weather in Slovenia is rather stable and not too cold. Expected temperatures in May and October are between 10 and 25 C and temperatures between June and September are between 15 and 30 C. Packing rain gear is always good as we cannot guarantee the dry weather. Some long sleeves can certainly come in handy.
