Day 1 - Ride the Alpe marathon
We love climbing by bike and there will be plenty of climbing in the very first stage of this tour. Our day takes us on the route of the toughest hardest Slovenian Granfondo – Marathon Alpe, covering the region of the Kamniško-Savinjske Alpine range. Starting at our doorstep with a warm-up on gentle terrain, we`ll hit the first big climb of the day, the Jezersko pass. Its almost 40 km uphill, but only the last 4 km is truly steep. After a short descent into neighbouring Austria we turn around and quickly climb back to Slovenia over the majestic Pavličevo sedlo mountain pass. It is a climb you`ll remember for a long time due to its steepness and magnificent views. Another descent takes us to the foot of the last climb of the day over Černivec pass back to the starting point. We`ll deserve big meal and ample rest after this test of endurance! Spa is waiting to dissolve fatigue of almost 2.400 altitude meters of climbing.
Overnight in Terme Snovik.
Day 2 - Connecting Alps & Wonder lakes
The second stage of the tour is special as it takes us through 3 different Alpine ranges. Starting at our doorstep (Kamniške Alpine range), the route takes us through undulating terrain at the foot of the long ridge of the Karavanke Alpine range. Crossing over the Gorenjska plains, we`ll reach two of the the crown jewels of Slovenian natural heritage; Bled & Bohinj lakes with their incredible views. As proper cyclists we stop for a coffee and the local speciality of Blejska kremšnita (cake). After the second lake of the day, the mystical Bohinj lake, our road turns uphill for 9 km of climbing with a hill-top finish for dessert.
Great views of Slovenia`s highest mountain Triglav are guaranteed as you stretch & relax in Vila Triglav, the heart of the 3rd Alpine range – the Julian Alps. The luxurious accommodation is run by Tadej Valjavec, former pro cyclist and top 10 GC TdF finisher!
Overnight in Vila Triglav.
Day 3 - Cobble the way up!
Third day in the saddle starts with a long descent and flat section towards the Kranjska Gora mountain resort. It is the site of a well known Alpine skiing World Cup race, but in summer it`s all about cycling. The most popular roadbike uphill race in the country starts in this town and heads up the historic road with its 25 hairpins – most of them paved with cobbles. The heroic climb is a proper one and you`ll congratulate yourself on top of Vršič pass. Descent through the valley of Trenta is simply incredible, with the pristine Soča river running along the route all the way to the town of Bovec – our resort for the next 2 nights.
Overnight in picturesque Bovec.
Day 4 - Easy ride / Rest day
After an easy spin you can enjoy a proper rest day with sunbathing on the Soča river or try some other sports activities in the area. There is plenty of options for everyone as Bovec is the Slovenian outdoor centre. If you`d like to take a break from tarmac and try something new, an electric mountainbike (eMTB) tour on easy gravel roads & single-tracks is available for a surcharge. The next day is the big ride day, so you might just want to take it easy though. ;)
Rest day options:
– easy 45 min. bike ride
– easy day, no other organised activities after morning ride
– kayak/canyoning/etc. on Soča river (surcharge)
– Bovec eMTB tour (surcharge, min. 4 persons)
Day 5 - Mangart odyssey - Slovenian haute route
D-day has come, we`ll test our strengths on some of the hardest climbs in the region. From our Bovec base it`s just up, up, up, all the way to the highest point of the RideAlps tour, the 2,100 m peak of Mangart! This route is special as it takes us through stone-carved tunnels (lights are mandatory!). Views on the top are out of this world and they`ll chase us for a long, long time. We descent the same route down to Predil Pass and into Italy. A loop around the majestic Kanin mountain range takes us over the difficult and solitary Sella Carnizza back to the Bovec base. We`ll need a good rest after this one, covering almost 120 km and 3,000 m of altitude gain.
Second overnight in Bovec.
Day 6 - From the Alps to the finest wine country
After yesterday`s epic ride, this one feels almost as day off. :) Fist part of the stage is almost flat and gradually descends towards the town of Tolmin. There the only major climb of the day starts, taking us up to the Korada mountain range and across the range all the way to our destination in Brda wine country. Views of the Alps on one side and the Adriatic sea on the other are standard in this region and will take your breath away. We`ll finish our ride with great local food and terrific wine – both well deserved.
Overnight: San Martin – Šmartno
Day 7 - Over “COL” to the Slovenian capital
The final stage offers exceptional views of the Vipava Valley wine region as we start the day easy on mostly flat terrain. After the town of Ajdovščina, the centre of a wine and fruit growing area, we ascent one of the most renowned road climbs in the country to Predmeja. The route takes us on top of Gora ridge all the way to Col where we take on the final part of the climb. The second half of the day’s route is easy and we`ll enjoy our last few group miles on the way across the Ljubljana marshland natural heritage site towards the capital. The tour ends with an easy ride through the old city centre and some fine dining to reflect on our adventures of the last few days in the saddle.
Overnight in Ljubljana.

Where do we meet?
How is it with cash and expenses?
The official currency in Slovenia is the Euro – €. Additional costs you may encounter during your stay: lunch (cca. 10 – 15€/day), souvenirs, drinks in bars, massage treatments in hotels, etc. Most places allow payments by credit card, but we recommend you visit an ATM machine and pay in cash. Tipping is welcome (if you are satisfied with the service), not mandatory. The usual tip is up to 15% of the bill.
How about the food and meals?
In all multi-day trips breakfast & dinner is included in the price. Lunch is the only meal that needs to be paid separately (around 10-15€ per day). Breakfast and dinner are part of the half-board lodging option at each hotel. Each day includes a lunch stop at a specially selected local restaurant, serving local home made food, friendly atmosphere and range of foods characteristic for the area. Other lunch option is buying food in the grocery store.
We kindly ask our guests to report any special nutritional requirements in advance (vegetarians, gluten free …) so we can notify the hotels and restaurants accordingly.
What kind of bike do I need?
We recommend standard road bikes for our bike tours. The bike should not weigh more than 10 kilos as there is quite a bit of uphill riding. Gearing; we recommend 50/34 combination of chainrings and at least 11-28 cassette. Even wider gearing, triple or 1×12 are also good options. Disc brakes are welcome but we are not able to provide spare wheels in case of puncture for all different standards.
Can I Rent a bike?
Sure! We have a number of high quality carbon road bikes available for rent. Bikes can be reserved upon booking to eliminate any chance of not having a bike ready and waiting for you when you arrive. For a full list of bikes, sizes and pricing contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What spare parts for my bike should I bring?
Spare tube is welcome and any special tools for your bike. Professional bike mechanic will be available for small repairs. In case of major difficulties a spare bike or spare wheels will be at your disposal during the ride.
You can also do away with worrying about spares altogether and rent a bike for the week.
What clothing do you recommend?
With the exception of May and October, weather in Slovenia is rather stable and not too cold. Expected temperatures in May and October are between 10 and 25 C and temperatures between June and September are between 15 and 30 C. Packing rain gear is always good as we cannot guarantee the dry weather. Some long sleeves can certainly come in handy.
